What is Neurodiversity?

Updated: Feb 18, 2022

Ever heard of the term "Neurodiversity"?

As an introduction, neurodiversity refers to the differences of both physical and psychological structure in the human brain.

All of our brains contribute to the neurodiversity umbrella, although only some individuals are categorized as "neurodiverse". Those who are Neurodiverse often have developmental neurological conditions such as ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, Tourette's Syndrome and more. People without these brain ailments are often referred to as "Neurotypical", in the sense that their brain functions in a matter that is more common in society.

I am a neurodiversity advocate and I created an organization called "DiverseNeuro" to spread reliable information surrounding neurodiversity awareness and education.

ADHD: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

ADHD is a neurological condition in which affects the levels of the dopamine neurotransmitter in the human brain.

The dopamine chemical is often associated with your basal ganglia, otherwise known as the reward system. Dopamine is crucial in attention regulation and other executive functioning tasks.

For individuals like myself with ADHD, we lack some dopamine and often have to replace it with what some may comedically call "Store-Bought Neurotransmitters". This takes the form of stimulant medication, which helps support the electrical dopamine connections in our brains.

I would continue onwards although, I think I have to move onto another task #ADHDthings
